ITINERARY - RUINS – MESA VERDE

SEE THE IMMENSE RUINS OF THE MESA VERDE CIVILIZATION

You will need to get an early start today as Mesa Verde has multiple tours you can do to see the immense ruin sites, but when the tours are full they are capped for that day so arrive early and sign up for the guided tours, you will be glad you did!

Mesa Verde is a little east of Cortez, Colorado on the way towards Durango, a beautiful day trip from your lodging in the Moab. Monticello, Blanding, or Bluff areas. You can enter Mesa Verde National Park on maps.google.com and it will show you the way.

The four main areas in Mesa Verde to see are:

  • Cliff Palace, cliff dwellers
  • Balcony House, ruins, climbing, park
  • Spruce Tree House, cliff dwelling around 13th century
  • Chapin Mesa Archaeological Site, exhibits on ancestral Pueblo Culture

Mesa Verde has one of the biggest concentrations of Peublo Indian sites. Approximately 4,400 sites have been found. Sites entail anywhere from villages on top of the mesa to cliff dwellings with more than 100 rooms and much more in between. Many of the sites are incredibly well preserved. This is definitely National Park that you don't want to miss.
