MANY ANCIENT RUINS IN THE AREA
You will want to start early today to fit in as many of these as you can. It can be a whole day event for one or two of them by themselves. Start your adventure at the Edge of Cedars State Park and then visit the surrounding National Parks for an amazing step back into history.
Hovenweep National Park
Six Prehistoric Villages that date back to 1200-1300 AD. It was once home to over 2,500 people. Multistory towers and various other structures.
Mesa Verde National Park
Over 600 ruin sites on the Mesa Verde Cliffs and Mesas. There are over 26 tribes associated with the Mesa Verde history. Self guided andanger guided tours available. This National Park is home to the second largest cliff dwelling.
Needles National Park
Visit Newspaper Rock and other historic areas. Then continue into the Canyonlands Needles District and hike some of the short trails in the park.
